PROD: Need to restrict Employee access to update GENDER through Employee Self Service

Employee is able to update her gender through employee self-service. This is NOT a desired behavior. I tried to customize the page and make the GENDER field read-only on employee self-service. It is NOT working (see the attached screenshot)
