Accounts Visible Under Lead/Opportunity For Association - "The selected or passed account is invalid" Error Message (Doc ID 2590327.1)

After associating an account, while converting the lead to opportunity, an error message is displayed "The selected or passed account is invalid."

The accounts selected in the first step are not visible from Sales-->Account screen.
