Lead Assignment Is Replacing Owner For Leads (Doc ID 2611836.1)

As per our client's Business Needs we have setup Lead Assignment Rules in the environment and scheduled a Lead Processing Activity to run and assign leads automatically. However we are noticing that for Leads which do not satisfy the criteria-conditions set in the Lead Assignment Rules the existing owner is getting deleted and owner field is becoming blank. Ideally for these Leads nothing should change since they do not satisfy the criteria set in Lead Assignment Rules then how is it becoming blank?
For our requirements we have the following settings in Lead Assignment Objects> Sales Lead Resource:
Replace Candidates-Checked; Keep Manual Candidates-Unchecked; System Attribute-Primary(attaching the screenshot as well for reference).

We also tried to change the settings here by selecting "Retain Current Assignment" for "No Matches Handling" criteria but still on running assignment the Lead Owner was removed from the lead. Can you please check and confirm why this is happening and how can we solve this issue?
