Symptoms

 Yum commands fail with errors similar to:

# yum update
Loaded plugins: security, ulninfo
http://yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL6/addons/x86_64/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 12]
Timeout on http://yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL6/addons/x86_64/repodata/repomd.xml: (28, 'connect() timed out!')
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: ol6_addons. Please verify its path and try again
