getting error while craeting new lead "Oracle.jbo.key error"

We have written groovy script on Sales Lead object at Validation Rules - Object Rules level. This script is basically to prevent association of a contact, which is already part of an open Opportunity, on Lead.
This script did work fine and prevent any association happening. After error message if we click on Cancel it works fine.

If we try to change the contact or delete the existing contact and try to save the Lead, this is where system behaves weirdly, it either populates the previous contact back and throws error message from script or it throws "Oracle.jbo.key error".
