Goal

Does Fusion Payroll support California Military Spouse Exemption?

Employee marked themselves as exempt under question 4 on the California withholding form: "I certify under penalty of perjury that I am not subject to California withholding. I meet the conditions set forth under the Service Member Civil Relief Act, as amended by the Military Spouses Residency Relief Act and the Veterans Benefits and Transition Act of 2018".

California State Income Tax ( CA SIT) was still withheld from the employee's pay. Currently using a workaround by exempting the employee from CA SIT on their tax card. However, if an employee checks this off and does not notify payroll department, they would not know that the workaround is needed, causing employees to be over withheld. This particular employee should be taxed for MA (per her Resident Tax Address) not CA.
