Replacement of Project Collections with Programs
As part of our 2020 roadmap, Programs will be replacing Project Collections. Our goal is to simplify the choices users face when selecting a context to manage multiple projects. This will also allow us to remove the older Project Collections feature, reducing the burden of maintaining similar functionality in multiple places.
The following changes will be happening very soon over a span of several releases:
- Providing Programs with the same functionality as Project Collections. This is well under way. Programs will soon allow projects to be members of multiple Programs. This is the one remaining difference between the behavior of a Project Collection and that of a Program. Programs will also be provided with dashboards, surpassing the current dashboard capability of Collections. All other Project Collections pages are already supported in Programs.
- Project Collections Deprecation. Access to the Project Collection context will be removed from Primavera Cloud navigation. Navigational links to Create a Project Collection, View a Project Collection, and View all Project Collections will be removed in a future release. Please refer to the What’s New information provided with each release for further information when this change is implemented.
- Project Collections Migration to Programs. To be able to readily use the Programs feature to manage projects in lieu of a Collection, the Collection will need to be replicated as a Program. To facilitate this step for users, we are automatically creating Programs of the same name and containing the same projects as their existing Collections. Users will need only to navigate to the list of Programs to view and retrieve an existing Collection in the form of a Program. The Programs left navigation provides current functionality to utilize the WBS and Activities views across all projects previously available in Collections. Furthermore, users will be able to benefit from other Programs features such as program cash flow, summary cost sheet, and project/program risk registers. These features provide Programs with a much richer feature set than Collections.
Note: Existing Project Collections can only be viewed by their owners (or by an Administrator). Regular users do not have the ability to view each other’s Collections. Programs provide much more granular access through the existing Primavera Cloud security module. We recommend that User Administrators review their use of Program permissions to allow for certain groups of users to create Programs as needed, and to provide the appropriate Program visibility for users at the workspace level as required by the business.
