NTP Server is not Configured in ExaCC Dom0s and Cell Servers. (Doc ID 2682681.1)

Last updated on MAY 09, 2022

Applies to:

Gen 1 Exadata Cloud at Customer (Oracle Exadata Database Cloud Machine) - Version N/A to N/A
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

-|- The ExaChk report from the Dom0s (Dom0: <HOST_NAME1> and Dom0: <HOST_NAME2>) and the Cell Servers reported the next critical alert:

All Database and Storage Servers should be synchronized with the same NTP server

-|- Benefit / Impact:

Verifying all database and storage servers are synchronized with the same NTP server can prevent potential issues ranging from impaired performance to a node eviction.

-|- The impact of verifying all Database and Storage Severs are synchronized with the same NTP server is minimal. The impact of making corrections varies depending upon the root cause of the difference.

-|- NOTE: This check will only pass if the following are all true:

1) There is one preferred NTP server defined in "/etc/ntp.conf" and it matches across all database and storage servers.
2) There is one synchronized NTP server peer reported by "ntpstat" and it matches across all database and storage servers.
3) The synchronized NTP server peer reported by "ntpstat" matches the preferred NTP server from "/etc/ntp.conf".
4) The maximum time drift reported by "ntpstat" is less than 1000 milliseconds.

-|- Risk:

Significant time drift on database and storage servers may cause unexpected storage server crashes or database server node evictions.
