Java Lang Nullpointerexception Error on Create or Update Opportunity (Doc ID 2710567.1)

Symptoms

Unable to attach any account to opportunities.


ERROR

java.lang.NullPointerException


STEPS
-------
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:


1. Navigator > Account > Edit Account > go to Opportunities subtab > Click on Create Opportunity >Cannot see any value in Account field

2. If user anyways goes ahead and click on Save and Continue, there is error - java.lang.NullPointerException

3. Navigator > Opportunities > open an existing opportunity > go to Account field > go to list of values and try to add any account > user selects from list of values, but that value does not reflect and appear in the field

4. Navigator > Opportunities > Create an opportunity > go to Account field > Click on list of values, search and select any account > there is Error popup, but there is no error message; it appears just blank
