END_DATE_ACTIVE Defaulted To '4712-12-31 Always

Goal
While creating records using Import if there is a null value in END_DATE_ACTIVE it is defaulted to '4712-12-31' . However we can still input max date as '9998-12-31'.
What is the reason of putting '4712-12-31' when the maximum limit is for date is 9998-12-31'.
