RPASCE: Why Are Special Characters Like Tilde and Slash Not Allowed in DPM Labels when Edited from the UI?

If a Style-Color product label has the concatenation of the Style label and the Color label with the tilde (~) used to separate the two, this causes no issue for the labels OR the position names when loaded via a hierarchy load. Similarly, when DPM positions are created via the informalPositionMgr -load operation, there is no issue.
However, when using DPM to create or modify the positions, the special character becomes an issue and the dialog box cannot be closed using OK (and therefore changes applied) unless the special characters are removed.
