Error 'Directory Not Empty' While Deleting Directories

Symptoms
On a Compute Instance using an NFS filesystem provided by OCI's FSS (File Storage Service), errors similar to the below one are observed when attempting to recursively delete directories (via the 'rm -rf ...' command):
rm: cannot remove `<PATH>': Directory not empty
The above is not observed for all directories in the specified path but, upon a manual check, it was observed that the referred paths were empty
