Symptoms

NFS statd fails to start.

Other NFS service may also fail.

In /var/log/boot.log:

Starting NFS statd: [FAILED]

In /var/log/messages:

Jan 27 09:48:23 <HOSTNAME> rpc.statd[5243]: Failed to register (statd, 1, udp): svc_reg() err: RPC: Remote system error - Cannot assign requested address
Jan 27 09:48:23 <HOSTNAME> rpc.statd[5243]: Failed to register (statd, 1, tcp): svc_reg() err: RPC: Remote system error - Cannot assign requested address
Jan 27 09:48:23 <HOSTNAME> rpc.statd[5243]: Failed to register (statd, 1, udp6): svc_reg() err: RPC: Remote system error - Cannot assign requested address
Jan 27 09:48:23 <HOSTNAME> rpc.statd[5243]: Failed to register (statd, 1, tcp6): svc_reg() err: RPC: Remote system error - Cannot assign requested address
Jan 27 09:48:23 <HOSTNAME> rpc.statd[5243]: failed to create RPC listeners, exiting
