Error Trying To Sync Approval Unit Hierarchy In Financial Consolidation & Close Cloud Service (FCCS): "An object with the name...already exists" (Doc ID 2757504.1)

Symptoms

While attempting to sync the approval unit hierarchy, the job fails with an error: "Error while saving/synchronizing the AUH 'Total Geography': An object with the name <member_name> already exists." The referenced member was added recently, then removed and added back.

Upon opening the unit and re-saving, a warning states: "The following members are associated with an approval unit that has been started: <member_name>. Are you sure you want to delete these associated members from the approval unit hierarchy definition?" Clicking OK throws additional errors: "An error occurred while processing this page", "The SQL operation failed".
