Goal

It is important to validate an application’s failover readiness for different types of outage types. One should understand the extent to which an application is able to failover, continue running, and mitigate impacts to it.

This note will cover two outage classes: unplanned outages and planned maintenance. Unplanned outages occur due to a sudden and unexpected failures and timeouts. Planned maintenance events occur when the system requires a software update or patch or downtime to replace a component.
