Goal

You are running out of DBFS file share space on your MFT server and want to increase the size of the dbfs.

1. The DBFS file share space is being depleted. How does one increase the size of the DBFS?

Please use this Doc on HOWTO scale Storage on OCI DB System:
https://docs.oracle.com/en-us/iaas/Content/Database/Tasks/managingDBsystem.htm

2. Can one just go onto the database and increase the file system?

No. You cannot increase the Storage on OCI Based DB System manually. As the Storage Disks needs to be added to Server (raw Disks) and then Align them to the disk groups on the ASM. This is done via cloud tooling automatically. You can only do it via UI. Pls see above #1 answer on HOWTO do it.

3. Does this require a database server reboot?

Yes. The cloud Tooling will take care of it. You dont have to do anything manually.... Both the Server and database will be rebooted/restarted couple times till the storage is added and scaled to ASM disks.

4. Will the dbfs share automatically increase in size or does this require a dropping of the dbfs and remounting of the dbfs and the dbfs_directio?

Yes and No. The disks are added based on the storage numbers you choose... like 512GB or 1TB or 2 TB or 32TB etc... based on the size: the disks are carved and striped and presented to the server and scaled. again all this is don automatically and no manual intervention is needed. All you have to do is follow steps as per the Doc and scale the storage. see details and steps mentioned on Step #1 answer.

5. What is the cost of this increase, where do I get charged for the additional storage, is it considered block storage, object storage?

The storage on OCI DB System is Block Storage. (not object storage)
Notes: Storage associated with server is block storage and storage associated with cloud backups (for example - is Object storage)
As for the costs, pls see below link. Again these are estimates only and actual costs depends on contract your company has with Oracle and we at Technical support do not know. Pls contact your Oracle Sales/Account representative for your organization/company.
