Details

Oracle Transportation Intelligence Cloud (OTI) and Global Trade Intelligence Cloud version 21C now use Oracle Analytics Server (OAS) 5.9. With the change from Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) to OAS, the approach to using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) has changed. OAS takes a different approach to KPIs than OBIEE did. In OBIEE, KPIs are used for comparison of actual and target values and the color of the KPI indicator is dependent on whether or not the target value is exceeded. In OAS 5.9, KPIs are desupported and no longer available. See Oracle Statement Of Direction for Oracle Scorecard & Strategy Management Product (OSSM) (Oracle Support Doc ID 2530313.1).

As a result, the way in which the OTI and GTI dashboards use KPIs has been changed.

This document describes the approaches evaluated by the OTI/GTI development team for the migration of KPI functionality in the sample dashboards from OBIEE to OAS. Though only one variation was used, two-color gauges, all of the examples shown in this document will work.

If you have dashboards reports using KPIs, you will need to update those reports so that the KPIs work in OAS. The migration from OBIEE to OAS in 21C will cause KPIs to no longer work.

Examples of KPI Replacement

The KPI replacement process contains the following main steps:

OAS Analysis

Here you see the OAS analysis. The KPI Actual is "as Measured". The KPI Label, Target, and Threshold are "excluded". The Threshold as derived from a formula has two statuses: Good is green and Critical is red. The thresholds can be user-configured. You can have multiple colors and thresholds as required.

OAS Dashboard and Report Prompts

Next, let's look at the Main Dashboard. You see report prompts and one analysis per KPI. These analyses are stacked in a section.

 OAS Visualization Options

The following OAS data visualization options were evaluated. And while they will all work with OTI and GTI, the two-color horizontal gauge was used to replace KPIs in the sample dashboards that ship with OTI and GTI.

Horizontal Gauge

Here you see a horizontal gauge with thresholds.

Speedo Chart

Here you see an example Speedo Chart with the percentage target achieved.

Bar Chart

Here you see a Bar Chart representing both values directly.
