Error "User does not have the security privilege to edit the Activity ID" When Attempting to Save Changes Made to Activities in P6 Web (Doc ID 2859908.1)

Last updated on APRIL 11, 2022

Applies to:

Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management Cloud Service - Version 22.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

When attempting to save changes made to activities in P6 Web, the following error occurs frequently although no attempt to edit the Activity ID was performed.  The error cannot be cleared without canceling the changes made.

Unable to save changes
Failed saving data. User <user name> does not have the security privilege to edit the Activity ID.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

The user must be a Non-Super user and they cannot have the Edit Activity ID PSP privilege.
  1. In P6 Web, open a project and navigate to the Activities view.
  2. Ensure the bottom dock is displayed, and either the General or Status tab is selected.
  3. Modify any activity's finish date by expanding or collapsing a bar from the Gantt chart.
  4. Click the Save button while the bottom dock is loading (confirmed by the pulsing circle on bottom pane).
  5. Note that 53 total columns are set in the save request as "being modified".
  6. This reported issue occurs when sending columns (which were not actually modified) that a user does not have permission to modify.
  7. Once the application is in this state, there is no way to get out of it without clicking Cancel, then completing all the changes before saving (this can be a major issue if multiple updates were made prior to saving page data).
