Workforce Modelling - Position Code field enabled even when Auto generate position code is selected

As part of the Enterprise HCM setup, position code is set as auto generated post save. However within the model, when a child position is created it has a field to capture the Position Code.

Why is this behaviour?

In case the user adds an existing position, it does not give any error. Please advise
