Essbase 21.3 Marketplace and Independent Deployment: Dimension Storage Type Changed When Re-Creating Cube With Cube Designer (Doc ID 2862280.1)

Last updated on MAY 03, 2022

Applies to:

Essbase for OCI Marketplace - Version Marketplace and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

When using Cube Designer to initially create a cube, the Scenario dimension is set to storage type "Dense". The cube is then being rebuilt and before rebuilding the cube, the data and outline is being cleared with the following MaxL command:

"alter database Sample.Basic reset all;"

After rebuilding the cube with option "Update cube" the Scenario dimension is now "Sparse".

  1. Build the application with Cube Builder
  2. Check in the outline that Scenario is Dense.
  3. Run MaxL (example): "alter database Sample.Basic reset all;" This will clear all data and members, but retain the outline file so that it is empty.
  4. Build the application again using Cube Designer. It doesn't matter which option is being used for retain/ clear data
  5. Check Scenario again. It is no longer Dense, but Sparse.

Note: We are using the Scenario dimension as an example. This can also happen to other dimensions.

MaxL command "alter database .... reset all;" is run after initial build of the outline and subsequent builds of the outline.
