Error "We found a problem with some content in [file name]" When Downloading a Report from BI Publisher in Excel Format (Doc ID 2871653.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to export a report from Business Intelligence Publisher (BIP) to Excel format, the following error occurs:

We found a problem with some content in <Excel file name>. Do you want us to recover as much as we can? IF you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes.

After clicking Yes, the following message displays:

Excel was able to open the file by repairing or removing the unreadable content.
Removed Part:/xl/styles.xml part. (Styles)
Repaired Records: Cell information from /xl/worksheets/sheet1.xml part

 

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1.  Login to BI Publisher.
  2.  Select Catalog > Shared Folders > Unifier Reports.
  3.  Select the report.
  4.  Click on the gear icon and select Export XLS.
  5.  Open the exported file in Excel.
  6.  Observe the reported issue.
