Symptoms

Ambari cluster services fail to start on a Big Data Service(BDS) with ODH, MIT Kerberos enabled cluster with, "kinit: Password incorrect while getting initial credentials".

1. Cluster services like, HDFS, YARN, MR2, Hive, Oozie, Zookeeper, Ambari Metrics, Ranger, Hue, Spark3, all fail to start.

2. Restarting one of the failing services from Ambari, for example hdfs, then checking the Ambari agent log at /var/log/ambari-agent/ambari-agent.log, shows many, "kinit: Password incorrect while getting initial credentials" errors, like:

Audit directory creation in HDFS for YARN Ranger plugin failed with error:\nExecution of \'/usr/bin/kinit -kt /etc/security/keytabs/hdfs.headless.keytab
hdfs-<CLUSTER>@<DOMAIN>\' returned 1. kinit: Password incorrect while getting initial credentials

Note: Restarting any of the failing services generates the same "kinit: Password incorrect while getting initial credentials" error.

3. The Ambari agent log references an error log file like, /var/lib/ambari-agent/data/auto_errors-<####>.txt which contains the same errors:

Execution of '/usr/bin/kinit -kt /usr/bin/kinit -kt /etc/security/keytabs/hdfs.headless.keytab hdfs-<CLUSTER>@<DOMAIN>' returned 1. kinit: Password incorrect while getting initial credentials
