Why my custom property is not available to be added to Preferences screen? (Doc ID 2924596.1)

I have created a User entity property. When I try to add this property to the Preferences screen in Configuration > User Types > Screen configuration > Application screens > Preferences, this property does not appear in the list to be selected.
