OCI Networking - Alternative Command to Use when the Traceroute Output Shows Asterisk Symbols (Doc ID 2925464.1)

Last updated on MARCH 08, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Virtual Networking - Version N/A to N/A
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

The traceroute tool is often used to check the connectivity between the source and destination by sending ICMP packets through the different hops/routers. Even though the data traffic might flow seamlessly between source and destination, by default OCI does not recommend ICMP packet as most of the routers and devices block them. This results in '***' in the output.
