Symptoms

In order to delete an asset type, all assets of that asset type must be unpublished, then delete the assets and then we would be able to delete the asset type. Unfortunately, we have found an asset type that has a field that references assets of the same type. Therefore, when there's a published asset that references another published asset of the same type and that second asset references another asset which at the same time references the first asset. E.G.

Asset1 -> Asset2 -> Asset1 -> etc.

Due this cyclic reference chain we are unable to unpublish these assets. When we try to unpublish any of these assets we get the error:

Is there a way to force unpublish / delete the asset type?
