Announcing The Retirement Of The OCPU Billing Metric In Autonomous Database On Dedicated Infrastructure And Cloud@Customer
(Doc ID 2998755.1)

Autonomous Database Dedicated - Version NA to NA [Release NA]Information in this document applies to any platform.
Details
Oracle Autonomous Database (ADB) on Dedicated Infrastructure and Cloud@Customer recently introduced a more advanced ECPU billing metric and is now retiring the legacy OCPU billing metric for Autonomous Data Warehouse and Autonomous Transaction Processing in the next 12 months. We recommend users to select the ECPU billing metric when provisioning new Autonomous VM Clusters (AVM). Oracle will provide an online conversion option that will not incur downtime or service interruptions to enable users to update existing OCPU AVMs and their respective ADBs to ECPU later this year.
ECPUs provide the same great price-performance as OCPUs and continuous improvements in price-performance over time. ECPU billing metric offers the following additional benefits:
- 50% lower entry cost
- The smallest Autonomous Database that can be provisioned with ECPUs is 50% less expensive ($0.672 per hour vs $1.3441 per hour with OCPUs).
- Finer granularity for database scaling
- Each incremental increase in ECPU database size is only $0.336.
Please refer to the ECPU billing metric FAQ for more details about ECPU and its benefits.
Actions
What action do I need to take now?
We encourage users to provision new Autonomous VM Clusters (AVM) with the ECPU billing metric. Oracle will offer an online conversion capability to update existing OCPU AVMs and their respective Autonomous Container Databases and Autonomous Databases to the ECPU billing metric via the OCI console and API in Q3 CY2024. In the meantime, users can also use database cloning to migrate existing OCPU ADBs to ECPU if they have AVMs configured with the ECPU billing metric. While you may choose not to update your existing databases’ billing metric at this time, Oracle may convert your databases from the OCPU billing metric to the ECPU billing metric in the future.
Which SKUs are affected by this retirement notice?
