Need Clarification on Extended ML Segments

Goal
Clarification request:
There’ s requirement in system to increase the length of 'Local Customer Code' from 20 to100. Local Customer dimension is an extended(Custom) ML segment.
a. Catalog extension does not allow to change the length of any attribute.
b. Unbale to create a new segment with desired length because AFCS applies a hard control on all the flexible/Custom ML segments.
When we switch to the new segment, the inbound connector will fail because it cannot insert null value into the old ML segment. And ML segments once defined will remain as ML segments forever and there’s no way to disable.
Suggestion requested to accommodate this change
