Symptoms

When attempting to update project via XLSX, the following error occurs and activities are moved to the project WBS node.

WARNING: TASK: Failed to resolve foreign key for field WBS Code with value x.x.x.x.x.. Field cleared.

 

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Open a project in P6 Professional.
  2. Export to XLSX format with project data.
  3. Using the Excel application, update an Activity Code in the spreadsheet.
  4. Import the XLSX file back into P6 to update the project.
  5. Some activities are moved from their WBS node to the project WBS node.
