Large XML Project Import Jobs are Running but not Completing and Import Jobs are Consuming Significant Memory and Time

Symptoms
When attempting to Import Project XML, from Primavera P6 Professional, the Job Status remains in a Running state and never goes to a Completed status.
ADDITIONAL BEHAVIOR:
The Project XML Import job must be removed from the JPBSVC table.
The job status was Running while the job was not actually running in the background - due to out of memory.
In some cases where the amount of time spent parsing the Import Template exceeds two hours, the XML import may fail with a session timeout exception.
P6 JOB SERVICES LOG EXCEPTIONS:
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space
com.primavera.integration.client.xml.xmlimporter.XMLImporterException: The session has timed out
