Veritas Storage Foundation Cluster File System 5.0
Veritas Storage Foundation for RAC (SFRAC)

Purpose

Oracle supports Oracle RAC installations only on clusters comprised of RAC compatible technologies and supported software combinations.  The purpose of this FAQ is to clarify what combinations of Oracle RAC 10.1 - 11.1 + Veritas software are supported on Linux.

This note does not apply to Oracle RAC 11.2.  Oracle RAC 11.2 on Linux is certified with Veritas SFRAC full stack.  This is in the certification tab on MOS.  Please see the certification matrix for details, including which Linux distributions and versions have this certification.  For instructions on how to look up RAC certifications in MOS certification tab, please see <Note 1053954.1>.

Summary

The Veritas SFRAC product provides several separable functionalities, including Veritas cluster software and Veritas clustered file system (CFS).  Oracle does not support running RAC 10.1 - 11.1 on Linux with 3rd-party cluster software, and this includes Veritas cluster software. Therefore Oracle does not support the use of Veritas SFRAC on Linux with RAC 10.1 - 11.1.  Oracle does, however, support using Veritas CFS with RAC 10.1 - 11.1 on Linux, with several restrictions - see below.

I was running Oracle 9iR2 with Veritas SFRAC 4.0 on Linux, and then I upgraded the Oracle software and now it doesn't work any more.
I was running Oracle 10.1.0.3 or 10.1.0.4 with Veritas SFRAC 4.0 on Linux, and then I patched the Oracle software to 10.1.0.5 and now it doesn't work any more.
We are using Veritas CFS on Linux.  When running root.sh during Oracle Clusterware (CRS) installation for 10gR2 or 11gR1, it gives the error "OCR location ... configured is not valid storage type", when Veritas CFS is used for ocr and vote disks :
On which platforms is RAC supported with the Veritas Storage Foundation Cluster File System?
Can I use the Veritas Storage Foundation Cluster File System for non-RAC purposes on non-Linux platforms next to RAC 10.1 - 11.1?
