Purpose

The purpose of this bulletin is provide an example of how to clone an existing Oracle9i Release 2 (9.2.0.x) RDBMS installation.

The example is based on the testing performed by Oracle Support and a customer. The testing was performed on Solaris, but the procedure should be generic and suitable for other platforms.

The customer wanted to create a self-contained 9.2.0.x installation (everything required is within the $ORACLE_HOME) that could easily and consistantly be cloned to target locations.

Scope

This bulletin is intended for anyone who is responsible for installing Oracle software onto a server or cloning an existing Oracle software installation.

NOTE: When cloning an installation to a new/separate server, it is mandatory to check that the server meets all of the prerequisite requirements. See <Note:169706.1> or the Installation Guide for a list of these.
