Inserting Blanks Into NOT NULL Column Fails With ORA-01400 (Doc ID 1010215.6)

In your precompiler program, you are trying to insert into a mandatory NOT NULL column one or more blanks.  You create a character host variable and fill it with blanks.  When you execute the INSERT statement, you get the Oracle error 'ORA-01400 mandatory (NOT NULL) column is missing or NULL during insert'.
