Getting ORA-00020/ ORA-00018 With A High Number Of CPUs Regardless Of How High The Related DB Parameters Are Set.

(Doc ID 1050281.1)

Last updated on DECEMBER 06, 2016

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version to [Release 10.2 to 11.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

You might be having a server with a high number of processors (> 48 CPUs) and no matter how high the DB Processes/ Sessions parameter is set, the instance seems to run out of processes/ sessions when Parallel operations are run and ORA-00018/ ORA-00020 errors are seen.

Added more CPUs to the system, or moved to a system with a higher number of processors.
