Symptoms

NOTE: In the images and/or the document content below, the user information and data used represents fictitious data from the Oracle sample schema(s) or Public Documentation delivered with an Oracle database product.  Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental and not intended in any manner.

The following error can occur when creating a materialized view, where the FAST REFRESH option is chosen, and the Master Table is located on a remote database.  Thus utilizing a <DBLink_Name> in the mview definition.

For example:

CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW <OWNER_SCHEMA>.<MView_Name>
BUILD IMMEDIATE
REFRESH FAST
WITH PRIMARY KEY
AS
select * from testmv.<MView_Name>@<DBLink_Name>;
*
ERROR at line 9:
ORA-12028: materialized view type is not supported by master site @<DBLink_Name>

Changes

No changes as such.  The issue only occurs for non local mviews (Master table on a remote database) where a Database Link is used in the mview definition.
