Purpose

PURPOSE

  This document describes how to rename a database file on any UNIX machine.

Scope

SCOPE & APPLICATION

  This article can be used by DBAs renaming database files on all 
  versions of Oracle.
  
  Note: if there are large number of updates needed, it might be easier to
        recreate the controlfile which allows the relocating of files.
