Symptoms

If the source instance is 10.2.0 and the target instance is 11.1.0, the following fails in SQL*Plus:

SQL> select *
  2    from test@testlink;

ID
----------
SHAPE(SDO_GTYPE, SDO_SRID, SDO_POINT(X, Y, Z), SDO_ELEM_INFO, SDO_ORDINATES)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1
SDO_GEOMETRY(2003, NULL, NULL, SDO_ELEM_INFO_ARRAY(1, 1003, 3), SDO_ORDINATE_ARRAY(1, 1, 5, 7))

SQL> insert into test
  2    select *
  3    from test@testlink;
insert into test
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-22804: remote operations not permitted on object tables or user-defined type columns

This works if the source and target are both 10.2.0, or if the source is 11.1.0 and the target is 10.2.0.

(Notice:  No Spatial operators/indexes are being used here.)
