1. On, Oracle Grid Infrastructure and Oracle RDBMS were installed as one installation owner.

[oracle@rac1 ~]$ id
uid=502(oracle) gid=501(oinstall) groups=501(oinstall),502(dba),504(asmadmin),506(asmdba),507(asmoper)

2. When attempting to run SQL*Plus, following error reported:

[oracle@rac1 db_1]$ sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
Error 6 initializing SQL*Plus
SP2-0667: Message file sp1.msb not found
SP2-0750: You may need to set ORACLE_HOME to your Oracle software directory

3. $ORACLE_HOME was set in .bash_profile:

[oracle@rac1 db_1]$ echo $ORACLE_HOME
