Lsnrctl Save_Config Causes Listener Crash and TNS-1153 (Doc ID 1103804.1)

Last updated on MARCH 31, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Net Services - Version 10.2.0.1.0 to 10.2.0.4.0 [Release 10.2]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

The Lsnrctl utility is being used to dynamically set any listener parameter (e.g. log_status, log_file, etc) followed by a save_config.   This error is more likely to occur when administering multiple listeners and switching between them using "set current_listener".  However, this problem is also reproducible using a single listener configuration.

After save_config is issued, the utility throws the following error and the listener crashes:  TNS-01153: Failed to process string

Inspection of the listener.ora file reveals that it's been overwritten by a 0 byte file.

Changes

This problem is triggered when the Lsnrctl utility is used to change any listener parameter where save_config would be issued.
