Lsnrctl Save_Config Causes Listener Crash and TNS-1153

The Lsnrctl utility is being used to dynamically set any listener parameter (e.g. log_status, log_file, etc) followed by a save_config. This error is more likely to occur when administering multiple listeners and switching between them using "set current_listener". However, this problem is also reproducible using a single listener configuration.
After save_config is issued, the utility throws the following error and the listener crashes: TNS-01153: Failed to process string
LSNRCTL>set current_listener Listener1
Current listener is Listener1
LSNRCTL>set password <return>
LSNRCTL>set log_file newlog.log
Connecting to (DESCRIPTION=ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=myhost)(PORT=1521)))
Error thrown here.
TNS-01153: Failed to process string;
Inspection of the listener.ora file reveals that it's been overwritten by a 0 byte file.
This problem is triggered when the Lsnrctl utility is used to change any listener parameter where save_config would be issued.
