Symptoms

The listener fails to start and the following error stack is thrown at the Lsnrctl utility prompt:

 

Error: ORA-12542 / TNS-12542
Text: TNS:address already in use

 

Changes

This may be a new installation or the listener.ora file has been edited manually since the last listener restart.
