RMAN Point in Time DUPLICATE fails with RMAN-20201 RMAN-06010 (Doc ID 1107664.1)

Symptoms

When try to run RMAN DUPLICATE for Point in Time recovery to a new database, it fails with RMAN-20201, RMAN-06010 as follows:

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03002: failure of set command at 05/22/2010 22:35:11
RMAN-20201: datafile not found in the recovery catalog
RMAN-06010: error while looking up datafile: 6

Changes

The datafile which is mentioned in the RMAN error stack has been created after the point in time mentioned in RMAN DUPLICATE command script. And the SET NEWNAME is used for this datafile in DUPLICATE script. For example:


RMAN> run {
set until time "to_date('22-MAY-2010 22:22:24', 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS')" ;
set newname for datafile 1 to '/<PATH>/<FILE_NAME>.dbf' ;
set newname for datafile 2 to '/<PATH>/<FILE_NAME>.dbf' ;
set newname for datafile 3 to '/<PATH>/<FILE_NAME>.dbf' ;
set newname for datafile 4 to '/<PATH>/<FILE_NAME>.dbf' ;
set newname for datafile 5 to '/<PATH>/<FILE_NAME>.dbf' ;
set newname for datafile 6 to '/<PATH>/<FILE_NAME>.dbf' ;
duplicate target database to dupdb skip tablespace users ;
}
...
...
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03002: failure of set command at 05/22/2010 22:35:11
RMAN-20201: datafile not found in the recovery catalog
RMAN-06010: error while looking up datafile: 6


In above example, the datafile 6 was created after 22-MAY-2010 22:22:24.
