ORA-4031 errors reported after upgrade of Oracle Applications database to 10.2

Symptoms
ORA-4031 errors like: ORA-04031: unable to allocate 576 bytes of shared memory ("shared pool","select obj#,type#,ctime,mtim...","sql area","ckydef : kkdlcky") are being reported after the upgrade of a database.
Heapdumps indicate that the shared pool memory is being consumed by permanent memory allocations associated with 'AQ queue object'. There are also a large number of cursor reloads and pins.
