UNIX: ORA-1990 at Startup DB After Creating Password File with Wrong Case (Doc ID 118367.1)

Symptoms

You have changed the init.ora parameter REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE from NONE to either SHARED or EXCLUSIVE.
You have also created a password file in the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs directory using the ORAPWD utility.

EXAMPLE:
=========
$ orapwd file=<name> password=<password>

When you attempt to start the database you receive an ORA-01990 error

ORA-01990: error opening password file '/$ORACLE_HOME/dbs/<name>'
