ORA-16032 and ORA-7286 Errors When Startup Nomount (Doc ID 118458.1)

Symptoms

After change the parameter log_archive_dest in the init<SID>.ora parameter file, you try to startup the database and the following errors are reported:

ORA-16032: parameter LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST destination string cannot be translated
ORA-07286: sksagdi: cannot obtain device information.

Additional OS-dependent information such as the following is also reported:

Linux-x86_64 Error: 2: No such file or directory

You check that the destination directory defined by the 'log_archive_dest' parameter exists and is writeable by Oracle.
