During Shutdown Immediate the following errors are reported in the Alert log:

Shutting down instance (immediate)
License high water mark = 164

17-AUG-2010 03:17:11.37:
Errors in file <PATH>/XXX_033.TRC;:
ORA-27300: OS system dependent operation:GETJPI pid=000234C8, retry=100, failed with status: 2280
ORA-27301: OS failure message: error 2280
ORA-27302: failure occurred at: skgpstime1
ORA-27144: attempt to kill process failed

PMON failed to acquire latch, see PMON dump
PMON failed to acquire latch, see PMON dump

ORA-27144: attempt to kill process failed

The shutdown completed within a reasonable time.

The related trace file XXX_033.TRC includes messages like:
