11gR2 Rerun command in configToolFailedCommands Failed (Doc ID 1191814.1)

Symptoms

11gR2 new Grid Infrastructure installation. Experienced issue with root.sh. After the issue is fixed and deconfig is done to clean up and rerun root.sh. It completes successfully. Now rerun the command in $GI_HOME/cfgtoollogs/configToolFailedCommands, it fails with:

/opt/grid/oui/bin/runConfig.sh ORACLE_HOME=/opt/grid MODE=perform ACTION=configure RERUN=false $*

The plug-in Automatic Storage Management Configuration Assistant has failed its perform method


The log file under $GI_HOME/inventory/ContentsXML/ConfigXML/oracle.assistants.asm.11_2_0_1_0.CFM.6.inst.xml, it shows:

This problem could also happen for upgrade from pre 11gR2 to 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure.
