DBCA fails to create database with message "Oracle Restart enabled database creation requires Default listener.."

When trying to create a database using DBCA on 11.2, we may receive the following error message:
If we verify with lsnrctl utility, we have a listener running from the Grid home, but it is either on a different port than 1521, or it has a different name than LISTENER.
