Purpose

The purpose of this article is to describe a way to alter storage maps and drop storage areas for segmented strings when a first attempt fails because you receive an RDMS-E-SSAREANOTEMPTY error.

Scope

Because this article describes how to use RMU/ALTER to change the contents of a page, you should know what the physical contents of a page are and how segmented strings are stored. You should also be aware of the consequences of altering a database page.
