An INSERT AS SELECT or any SQL that copies data from one table to another, may report ORA-7445 [_wordcopy_bwd_dest_aligned] in the database alert log and cause a database instance crash. Other errors may also be seen in the alert log - in memory block corruption errors like ORA-600 [2662], ORA-600 [4519] or memory corruption errors like ORA-7445 [__intel_new_memcpy]. Those are all related to and triggered by the original ORA-7445 [_wordcopy_bwd_dest_aligned] error.

The call stack trace of the process that gets ORA-7445 may look like this:

wordcopy_bwd_dest_ (aligned) <- memmove <- kdrwric <- kdrwri <- kdoirp <- kco_issue_callback <- kcoapl <- kcbapl <- kcrfw_redo_gen <- kcbchg1_main <- kcbchg1 <- ktuchg2 <- ktuchg <- ktbchg2 <- kdtchg <- kdtwrp <- kdtInsRow ...
