SSL / TCPS Connection Fails Intermittently with ORA-3113 (Doc ID 1213474.1)

Last updated on OCTOBER 12, 2016

Applies to:

Advanced Networking Option - Version: 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4 - Release: 10.2 to 10.2
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Customer was testing SSL connections with various operations. Everything seems to work well with the exception of distributed updates using a database link over SSL with certain types of data. In particular this example is sending a clob from one database to another. This is intermittently reproducible
Example:

SQL> insert into dchuha.clob_target@testdb10 (select text from dchuha.clob_source);
insert into dchuha.clob_target@testdb10 (select text from dchuha.clob_source)
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-02055: distributed update operation failed; rollback required
ORA-02068: following severe error from TESTDB10
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

SQL> rollback;

Rollback complete.

SQL> quit

Note that this operation never fails if going over a non-SSL connection.

Changes

Recently configured TCPS(SSL) communication for database.
