A DataPump import with PARALLEL > 1 and REMAP_SCHEMA parameters fails with:

ORA-31693: Table data object "<schema name>"."<table name>" failed to load/unload and is being skipped due to error:
ORA-29913: error in executing ODCIEXTTABLEOPEN callout

If before import you set the event:

alter system set events '29913 trace name errorstack level 3';

and add TRACE=480300 parameter to impdp command line, then in DW00 generated trace file you can see that external table method was used:

ORA-29913: error in executing ODCIEXTTABLEOPEN callout

----- Current SQL Statement for this session (sql_id=....) -----
INSERT /*+ APPEND PARALLEL("<table name>",<parallel degree>)+*/ INTO RELATIONAL("<schema name>"."<table name>" ) ...
FROM "ET$...." KU$

The plan table from trace file also shows "EXTERNAL TABLE ACCESS FULL" operation.
